The Federation of Student Islamic Societies hosted its 54th Annual Conference at Leicester University where it elected its new leadership for 2017/18. Muslim student delegates came from across the UK & Eire to elect its new National Executive Committee (NEC) and have voted Mohammed Rajab Fadiel to be its new president. Upon his appointment he said, “I feel very very honoured to have been elected as the President of the Federation of Student Islamic Societies, it is a great responsibility to be given the chance to serve and represent the interests of 120,000 muslim students across the UK and Ireland. I pray that this year is a year where muslim student’s voices are heard and well represented bithinAllah. I really look forward to working with the newly elected NEC and our 120 Islamic societies.”

As Fadil takes up his new position, we bid farewell to Zara Mohammed, president of FOSIS 2016/17. As the first female to take up the role, this year has been most notably about breaking barriers during the toughest times the country has faced. As she closed the annual conference, Mohammed said “Serving as your FOSIS President has been the greatest honour and privilege. We’ve had a defining year blessed with many successes, setting the pace for great change. My greatest thanks go to my NEC and the ISOC community for their continued support. I look forward to seeing the direction the new NEC takes FOSIS.
